On March 17th, BBC TV’s prime-time magazine programme The One Show aired a report about Nottinghamshire’s hidden arms companies. In the wake of revelations about the UK selling arms to repressive regimes such as Libya and Bahrain, the One Show decided to do a report looking at the UK’s arms trade. The report was based around [...] [...] The latest film by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, director of Amélie, is a wacky caper about a group of oddball characters who decide to take direct action against the arms trade. In it, the products of one Nottingham-based arms company – Heckler & Koch – make a brief appearance. Micmacs follows the fortunes of hapless video store clerk [...] [...] A poster opposing Nottingham-based arms company Heckler & Koch has appeared at various locations around the city. The poster is the work of a mysterious local artist known only as Questionmarc, and was designed as “a subliminal awareness raiser that the corrupt firm continues to operate from our city.” The poster features a picture of the [...] [...] To highlight the link between the arms trade and refugees, and to call for an end to the exporting of arms and the deportation of asylum seekers, Shut Down H&K and No Borders Nottingham held a demonstration called FULL CIRCLE on Saturday 29th November 2008 on Nottingham’s Old Market Square.
